The King and I

Getting To Know You

(with slight variations from the original)

Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJ)

"Come to Me...learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Getting to know You,

Getting to know more about You.

Getting to love You,

Getting to know You love me.

Getting to know You,

Putting it Your way, concisely,

You are precisely

Just what I need.

Getting to know You,

Getting to feel free and easy.

When I am with You,

Getting to know what to say.

Haven't You noticed

Suddenly I'm bright and breezy,

Because of all the beautiful and new

Things I'm learning about You

Day by day!!

For many years we had a Bible study group in our neighborhood which we called "Just a Bunch of Marys"--after Mary who sat listening at Jesus’ feet. One year I thought "Getting to Know You" would make a great theme song for us, for that was exactly what we were doing. It wasn’t until we were having a going away lunch for one of our members and presenting her with the sheet music for this song, that the fact it was from The King and I—and we had been relating to the King of Kings all year—dawned on me. These are the times it becomes clear that our good ideas probably haven’t originated from us at all! Every good gift...is from above..." (James 1:17).
