This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." But you said, "We will not listen."

Jeremiah 6:16 (NIV)

Who told you to turn the radio on from morning to night?

Who told you to fill your calendar from top to bottom?

Who told you to take the extra class, the second job?

Who told you to watch the TV?

Who told you to pick up the magazine?

Who told you to talk?

It was not I.

I told you to "Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46: 10).

I told you "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength" (Isaiah 30: 15).

I told you to "Come to Me and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11: 28).

But you do not come to Me.

You do not rest.

You are not quiet.

You are not still.

You wonder why you are tired.

You wonder why you feel badly.

You wonder--when you even take time to wonder--why life is so hectic.

I have told you.

You have not been quiet enough to hear.

Who told you to read to Me from a printed page?

Who told you I required lists?

Who painted Me as distant and aloof?

Who told you to be so formal with Me?

It was not I.

I told you that I love you.

I asked you to come near to Me. (James 4:8)

I told you you could call Me Daddy. (Romans 8:15)

I--the One you say is your Lord--have said it.

But you have not listened.

You donít know how to be quiet.

Let Me teach you.

Come to Me and I will teach you.
