Iíve been thinking about how I entertain thoughts. It's actually a lot like I entertain guests in my home.
"Hello! Come on in! Make yourselves at home! We'll just sit here and have a nice long chat. Is there anything I could get for you?"
Now this is a lovely thing to contemplate if Iíve pictured myself there in the company of good friends. But what about if this company is not so desirable? What if they spend the time slandering me and my friends or pronouncing judgments on my home and family? What if they use offensive language and are condescending of things dear to me? If I continue to entertain them, listening carefully to their tirades and rarely disagreeing with them, they will keep showing up regularly, knocking on my door, and expecting the red carpet treatment.
I am to be cautious of the company I keep, for, as I am told in I Corinthians 15:33, bad company corrupts. But how blessed I am when the thoughts I entertain are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8 NIV) for these are the kind of company our Lord has chosen for me to entertain.
